I’m pretty sure that my little Kiki girl wants to spend the rest of her summer days chilling in the grass and enjoying the hot sun. Every afternoon we head outside in our yard together to check how our vegetable garden is doing, she loves to sniff the baby watermelons, rosemary and the tomatoes more than the other veggies. I once caught her opening her mouth – preparing to devour a ripe strawberry that was still on the vine, but I called out her name and she totally played it off like she was just checking it out and gave it a little lick – she’s smart like that!

We found a hornworm eating our tomato plants last week and she sat there wide eyed at my feet, I think she wanted a go at the worm! She’d probably just lick him and walk away, she’s pretty mellow like that. After checking the veggies, we sit in the grass and she crawls up in my lap with the biggest smile on her face and is so completely content and happy in those moments we share together. Sometimes we lay there together and watch the clouds pass by. When it’s time to head back indoors, she never wants to leave. I always wish that we could spend our entire day out there together.

I make a conscious effort every single day to spend special time with each of my doggies doing something with them that they love, and the time that we spend together in our yard is one of Kiki’s most favorite things. It’s just as special for me and I try to soak up each and every of these moments with her as they pass. I love her so very much.

Sending a very special thank you to the families and people who have sacrificed so much and/or given their lives to protect our country.

Since I come from a long line of foodies, it only feels appropriate to celebrate any type of special holiday with good homemade food – like BBQ, fruit salad, potato salad and strawberry shortcake with strawberries fresh from the Farmers Market! Wishing everyone a special and delicious Memorial day. Cheers!

I am obsessed with Kiki’s peach fuzz {I feel the term peach fuzz is more appropriate for a lady as opposed to beard}. I love it when Kiki wakes up and half of it is plastered to her face and I love it when the entire thing is out of control. The peach fuzz takes on an entire life of its own and most of the time resembles Albert Einstein’s crazy ‘do.’ We’ve tried taming it, combing it daily, I even tried the typical mom thing where you lick your finger and try to slick it down {doesn’t work, sorry Kiks – I used to hate it when my mom did that to me too!}, it still just goes about its merry way, it has a life of its own and it always makes us laugh. Sometimes I wonder if she can see through it, and I used to get a little frustrated with it because on occasion it blocks her gorgeous brown eyes from my lens. But the peach fuzz is part of who she is and who am I to change that? I truly want to capture her just as she is – that’s how I want to photograph all pets, all people – everything I photograph. It’s about going with the flow and fully embracing and loving what is. The peach fuzz is just another reason why I love my Kiki Beans so very much.

Have you checked out our facebook fan page yet? I just posted another photo of Kiki’s crazy peach fuzz over there that I took with my iphone!
